Dutchman Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool FC, spoke about the importance of keeping the team’s stars, most notably the duo Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, stressing that renewing their contracts reflects the club’s ambitions. Liverpool recently renewed the contracts of the two stars, keeping them in the team’s ranks until June 30, 2027.

Liverpool is preparing to face Leicester City next Sunday evening as part of the 33rd round of the English Premier League. During the pre-match press conference, Slot stated: “The ability to retain our best players who have performed brilliantly for many years, and securing their stay even as their contracts approach their end, demonstrates the extent of the ambition we strive for.”

In a related context, Slot mentioned the possibility of Trent Alexander-Arnold being on the Liverpool bench for the Leicester City match, explaining: “Trent has returned from injury and trained with us yesterday. In every training session, he shows his commitment, and when he is on the pitch, he proves his great value as a player.”

Regarding the possibility of renewing Arnold’s contract, he commented: “He is a fantastic player, and his return from injury is a strong addition to the team.”

In response to a question about whether he dreams of winning the English Premier League title this week or next, Slot replied: “No, I’m not sure if you will believe me, but this is the truth. Throughout my life, I focus on the present, I live each day as it comes, and I don’t look to the past or the future. This is my nature.”

He added: “We are happy with the team we have, and keeping Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk is considered our best business this summer.”

Slot emphasized the importance of maintaining the core of the main team as long as the players perform as required, with the possibility of adding some new faces to inject vitality, but he clarified that this is not necessary given the quality of the current squad.

He concluded his remarks by pointing to the team’s recent strong performance: “We have won five of our last six matches. The English Premier League is very strong, and every match in it presents a difficult challenge.”
